Booze & Burgers- The Perfect Match @ Stout In Los Angeles, CA.

When it comes to premium bar food invented solely to pair with their enormous beer menu few places in LA can beat this upscale gastropub in terms of uniqueness and taste.

There is something especially inventive and exciting about this small burger joint/ bar, which adds to other specially curated menus at places like Umami, Plan Check, or Father's Office. Most places have their own unique twists on the food, and are known for their interesting or exotic flavors, and this one is no different, offering things like truffle burgers, breakfast burgers with egg & bacon, giant pretzels with 4 different kinds of dipping sauces- all of them on the on a whole other scale in terms of taste- and one or two desserts that have put them on the foodie map.

While the food is pretty amazing on its own, these guys are pairing their burgers and stouts perfectly, and have a modest menu of burgers, sides, salads, and desserts with a hefty array of booze to go with it, complete with pairing suggestions. The portions aren't enormously huge- except that ridiculously decadent marshmallow-y bread pudding, that thing is a beast of a different kind, & the giant pretzel- and the ingredients are high quality and cooked to perfection. The Stout, Breakfast, and Truffle burgers are their most popular.

The truffle burger is perfectly cooked, juicy enough to call for a stack of napkins, and packed with a mouthful of flavor you won't soon forget. I've rarely had better, and believe me, you can do worse. The Six Weeker is a gorgeous combination between sweet & savory- brie, arugula, caramelized onions, and fig jam. Yeah. It will leave you wanting more for days. And really, who can go wrong with the original Stout Burger- blue cheese, gruyere, rosemary bacon, caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, and horseradish? Like, I can't even…

The beers themselves are all plentiful and specifically selected to enhance the dining experience and can range from Pale Ales to Lagers, Belgian Goldens to Specialty Ales, and even a wine selection. My personal favorite was the Coffee Stout. It wasn't too overpowering as some stouts tend to be and you definitely get a hint of those smooth coffee notes at the end.

One of their most popular items is the bread pudding, and I can personally say, while it is a scary sugar bomb to the extreme, it is well worth getting at least once in your life, as it is crack in sugar form. It is rich, decadent, & sensuously falls apart when you spoon it up with some of that vanilla bean ice cream they serve it with. Perhaps you can find someone special to share it with.

I would suggest coming on an empty stomach, as you don't want to have to pay $7+ for parking and twice that on one or two drinks that you may or may not enjoy. Pricey food aside, though, this is certainly a chill place to grab some brunch or catch a game during Happy Hour.
