I was doing my usual Wednesday drive for Lyft in Los Angeles when I passed by this sweet little spot and was drawn by its pure, raw energy. I promised myself that this was going to be my next foodie adventure; fast-forward to a week later, and here I am. Maybe it's because this is a hot new spot, but parking was surprisingly easy to snag both times I was there that day. Yes, I went twice; it's just that good. Situated below an apartment complex in a cozy little corner of LA, it may not be empty for long, but it will still be worth the drive and the hunt for a parking spot. Or take a Lyft. Your choice.
For my morning commute before improv practice, (because it takes a lot of work to be this charming and funny), I ordered their green detox juice instead of coffee to keep me from going off the rails too early in the day. I worried that it would taste like the color green in a bad way, but it was surprisingly delicious. It was chock-full of healthy goodness from celery & kale to red apple and apple cider vinegar. The lemon, ginger, and lime give it a nice balance so nothing overpowers the other.
For my afternoon visit, I actually ordered some food & java. They have a modest menu of salads, both hot and cold sandwiches, and breakfast foods that they serve until closing such as hearty oatmeal with a serving of fruit & turkey pretzel croissants. The English Muffin with an organic runny egg, avocado, & “houz” made pesto is calling my name, right now.
The coffee is amazing! I tried their signature Butterscotch Draft Iced Latte and it was as bomb as it sounds. Not too sweet, with just a hint of bitterness, either from the butterscotch or from the java, I'm not sure, but it was great. They give you your choice of milk alternatives as well as organic whole milk. I suggest going with hemp; you don't see it in too many places and it always seems to give whatever it's paired with- especially coffee- a nice, smooth nutty flavor.
They even have an on-the-go section that offers a few healthy packaged drinks & overnight oats if you don't have time to stick around around for your food to be made fresh. And the service is legit all the way through. The guys who helped me out were such a bundle of positive energy that I just did not want to leave. If you live anywhere in LA, you have to come check these guys out!
