Everyone obviously loves a refreshing cocktail in the summertime. Here are my favorites, all absolute classics with a twist. I think they are best to be enjoyed while catching some rays by the pool, on a beach or on a nice roof terrace. Let’s hope the sun will be out a lot this summer so we can binge on these amazing drinks.
First up is the Margarita, a classic cocktail dating back to the 1930s but just as popular today. The frozen version is especially enjoyable in summertime, and easy to make with just four ingredients:
2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce Cointreau, 3/4 ounce of fresh lime juice, and slushy ice.
Dale DeGroff, a New York based master mixologist, has a tip to make your lovely Margarita even more lovely. He likes the flavor of a shaken Margarita with puro de agave tequila and natural fruit purees which add an extra dimension to your classic Margarita.
Next of course is the Mojito, another classic with lime in it. I sure seem to be a lime lover. Some more ingredients needed here but still incredibly simple to make:
1 ounce simple syrup, 1 1/2 ounces white rum, soda, 3/4 ounce lime juice, and mint leaves.
Again, Dale has some awesome tips to play with this classic Mojito. He likes to add a couple of dashes of bitters with the mint or, if you like, another flavor like fresh peaches or cherries also works. Just experiment with it a little and see what you like.
Last but not least there’s the Caipirinha, a Brazilian beauty. Its exotic name already gets me in a summer mood and its taste is divine. Lime is present again in this drink, I just think it makes a summer cocktail that much tastier. So, here are the ingredients:
2 ounces Cachaça, 1/2 lime, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and slushy ice.
The mixologist’s tip: add mashed-up lime and sour/sweet cherries, grapes or pineapple - well, just any kind of fruit you like, which will give your classic Caipirinha more flavor.
Here you go, my favorite summer cocktails. I'm getting thirsty just writing about it. Get shaking lime lovers, you will love this!
