Low-Carb and Sugar-Free Treats for Halloween

It's no secret that Halloween is a holiday all about candy.

It’s a time of temptation – with sweet treats lurking around every corner. To be honest, the holiday seems to have become less about ghosts and ghouls over the years, and more about… well, sugar!

This seems kind of strange to me, because I'm British - and when I was a kid we'd go trick-or-treating and be given money. No joke!

Granted, it was just spare change - but the concept of giving neighbourhood kids candy and sweets wasn't really a 'thing' in northern England back in the '90s. At least not where I grew up.

Oh how times have changed! So, in light of this, I thought it only fair to post a couple of life-saving, low-carb Halloween treat recipes for anyone trying to watch their sugar intake. These should save you from reaching for the multitudes of sugary snacks that are flying around at this time of year. Pumpkin Spice 'Cheesecake' Fat Bombs

Fat bombs are awesome. They’re great for satisfying carb cravings, and due to their high fat content they have great filling power and provide a good source of energy.

Obviously, as with all treats – they should be enjoyed in moderation. But since it's almost Halloween, here’s a special pumpkin spice recipe, perfect for satisfying your Halloween treat cravings.


  • 3 ounces of soft cheese (Neufchatel works well)
  • Half a cup of pureed pumpkin
  • Half a cup of unsalted, grass-fed butter
  • Half a teaspoon of pumpkin spice
  • A quarter cup of shopped almonds or walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sweetener
  • A pinch of salt


  • Melt the butter over a medium heat and add the pumpkin puree, stirring well
  • Add the cream cheese, nuts, sweetener and spice
  • Mix everything together thoroughly until all the ingredients are fully combined
  • Spoon the mixture onto a baking tray lined with grease-proof paper and freeze overnight
  • Once frozen, cut into squares and store in a Tupperware box in the freezer, ready to eat

Sugar-free Candied Bacon

Who doesn’t love candied bacon? It’s the perfect mix of sweet, salty and savoury – and it makes a great snack. Usually, candied bacon is very much off the menu for low-carb dieters as it’s often made with brown sugar or maple syrup (or both!).

But you can enjoy the keto version guilt free!


  • 1 pound of thick cut bacon
  • 3 tablespoons of 'brown sugar' sweetener substitute
  • 2 tablespoons of Walden Farms Sugar-free Maple Syrup
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar


  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix the sugar substitute, syrup, black pepper and rice vinegar together in a small bowl
  • Place the sliced bacon on a rack over a baking sheet
  • Bake in the oven for about ten minutes
  • Turn each slice and then bake for a further ten minutes
  • Brush each slice with the syrup mixture on each side, then return to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes
  • Repeat this process, basting and turning the bacon every five minutes for about half an hour
  • Once the bacon has browned and crisped up a bit, remove from the oven
  • Enjoy warm or cold

Low-carb Spiced Almond Cookies

Almond flour is perfect for baking, while remaining low on the carbs. And cookies are a perfect sweet treat for Halloween, as a substitute to candy. See where I'm going with this?

By using almond flour for your cookies, you save precious carbs and add the filling power of nuts into the mix. These cookies are great for staving off carb cravings - and make a perfect low-carb Halloween treat. Not that you’re going to be giving any of these away to the neighbourhood kids that might come knocking on your door.


  • Half a cup of unsalted, grass-fed butter
  • A quarter cup of pumpkin seeds
  • Two large free range eggs
  • Half a cup of granulated sweetener
  • One low sugar or diabetic chocolate bar, chopped into small chunks
  • Half a teaspoon of pumpkin spice
  • Half a teaspoon of baking soda
  • A teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A quarter teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 2 and a half cups of almond flour
  • A generous pinch of salt


  • Combine the salt, almond flour, baking soda, spices, salt and and sweetener in a mixing bowl
  • Melt the butter in a bain-marie and allow it to cool slightly (but not set)
  • Add the vanilla, Chocoperfection bar, eggs and pumpkin seeds to the butter, and mix
  • Stir the wet mixture into the dry mixture until a dough has formed
  • Scoop out about one tablespoon of the mixture and flatten into a disc on a cookie sheet
  • Repeat this process until you’ve used up all the dough, then pop into the oven at 350F for about ten minutes or until the cookies are starting to turn golden brown
  • Remove them from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool
  • Enjoy with a hot cup of Bulletproof Coffee

Sugar-Free Candied Pecans

If you need a sweet and filling low-carb snack to keep you away from all the Halloween candy that's flying around this time of year, then give these candied pecans a try! They're super tasty and (almost) completely guilt free. Half a cup of pecans has around 7 grams of carbs in it, and while this is quite low, it's easy to go overboard.

The moral of the story? Don't go nuts with your nuts!


  • One cup of sweetener
  • One teaspoon of cinnamon
  • One teaspoon of salt
  • One egg white
  • One pound of pecan halves


  • Whisk the egg-white until light and fluffy
  • Toss the nuts in the egg-white, and add the Just Like Sugar, cinnamon and salt
  • Mix together until the nuts are evenly coated
  • Spread the nuts onto a baking sheet and pop into the oven at 250F
  • Bake them in the oven for about one hour, stirring occasionally
  • Enjoy!

So there we have it! Keto-friendly and low-carb treats for Halloween, with all the taste and none of the guilt.
