It can sometimes be difficult to make healthy choices and eat all natural foods when we’re on the go. With sugar-loaded, artificially coloured convenience foods and snacks lurking around every corner, feeding yourself and your kids healthy treats and wholesome snacks can be tough!
This is particularly true when travelling. Now that summer vacation season is fast-approaching you might be planning a road trip or getaway, which obviously calls for some portable snacks to keep tummies full and tempers steady.
The good news is that you don’t have to resort to gas station candies, or a pit-stop at the drive-thru burger joint. With a little forethought and planning, you can create healthy snacks that are perfect for when you’re out and about!

Making jerky is simple: just mix together garlic powder, a little organic honey, paprika, and black pepper in a bowl, and brush onto thinly sliced beef strips (top round). Bake the strips in a preheated oven at 175 degrees for 3 to 4 hours until dry and deliciously chewy.

Simply mix together 2 cups of rolled oats with half a cup of organic maple syrup, sunflower seeds, a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil and a sprinkling of dried mixed berries. Spread the mixture onto a lined baking tray, and bake for 25 minutes until golden, at about 325 degrees. Once cooled, cut into bite-size pieces and enjoy with a sliced apple.
