Summer Picnic

Longing for a nice refreshing meal out in the sun? As the days are growing warmer, a relaxing summer picnic is the best way to enjoy being outside. A lot of fuss, you must think. No, preparing a picnic is easy as pie. Just throw some tasty food and a bottle of your favourite wine together, and there you have it: the basics for a great adult picnic.

Instead of eating at a restaurant with friends, going on a picnic together will save you some time and money, and you'll be able to breath in some fresh air. Whether you love seafood, meats, or even vegetarian, shop for picnic ingredients you like. If you need some inspiration, here are some options for you to try:

Like seafood? Then go for these ingredients:

  • smoked salmon
  • cooked crab meat (+/- 150g/person)
  • cooked prawns or muscles (+/- 6 to 8/person)
  • ready made prawn cocktail sauce/lemon mayo
  • veggies: a mixed leaf salad bag, cherry tomatoes, potato salad, pickled vegetables
  • a fresh lemon
  • cheese & crackers
  • french bread

Like everyday picnic food, something quick and easy?
Then consider these options:

  • a whole cooked chicken
  • sliced cold meats
  • your favourite cheeses
  • salted biscuits
  • veggies: coleslaw, mixed salad, pickled gherkins, pickled onions and sweet chutney
  • salad dressing

Of course an adult picnic wouldn't be an adult picnic without the wine. White or rosé wine are a great choice for a summer picnic. But you could also bring a bottle of sparkly, even when you don't have a reason to celebrate. Pack all of the food and drinks into a cool box and don't forget your picnic blanket. Look for a nice spot in the sun and enjoy!
